Reserve With Google Could Change the Way People Exercise

April 6, 2017

To encourage people to exercise throughout the week, Google has launched a new program that makes it easier for people to book and attend fitness classes. Google originally ran the pilot by making it available to only the people of New York, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area, but the program is now live all around the country.

Senior, Julia Prince says, “I am so glad that this has expanded to Tampa because I enjoy working out by going to fitness classes, rather than just going to the gym on my own. A fitness class really forces me to push myself and break a sweat.”

To book a fitness class, all the user has to do is visit the Reserve with Google website on either their phone or desktop. From there, options are listed as the top results, which are divided into different types of classes, such as yoga, barre, or zumba. Underneath each class, there is a description and ratings that Reserve of Google users have inputed themselves after attending the class. At this point, the user can book a spot in a new class or a class they have been to before.

Junior, Claire Obeck says, “I like how it lists the classes under categories of what type of fitness it is. This would make it easier for me to narrow down my options if I already knew what type of class I wanted to do.”

In addition to all the great features the program already has, another convenient aspect is its connection to Google Maps. This allows the user to see which classes are the closest to them. Furthermore, Reserve with Google can connect with Calendar to make sure that the user does not forget when they have made their fitness class appointment for.

Sophomore, Lauren Curtis says, “I definitely think it is useful that Reserve with Google puts the fitness class in your calendar, since so many people have such busy schedules. At least for me, this would make it easier for me not to forget to go to the class.”

One Google spokesman says, “We make recommendations based on courses you’ve taken, and will be exploring more ways to bring timely and useful recommendations to fitness buffs.”

Made possible through Google’s strong connection with many scheduling provides in the US, including MIND BODY and Front Desk, Reserve with Google makes exercising more convenient and accessible.
