“So You Think You Can Dance” is an event being put on by the Head of the Performing Arts Department Vivian Kimbler and directed by AHN students Dayzha Cartwright (‘19) and Angelina Prince (‘21). The event will be held Friday, January 11, 2019,  at 7:00 p.m. in the Brady Center.

This will be the second year So You Think You Can Dance will be put on in the Brady Center at AHN.

“So You Think You Can Dance” is a televised competition similar to “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent”, but the show involves only dancers.  The show features dancers trained in a variety of dance genres who enter open auditions held in a number of major U.S. cities to showcase their talents and move forward through successive additional rounds of auditions to test their ability to adapt to different styles.

The event at AHN will be similar to the TV show, AHN students will perform for three judges this year AHN teacher Clare McFlynn-Goewey, and Dance Quest International teachers Monica Francis and Sam Tumiki. This event is fairly new at the Academy as this will be the second year the event will be put on.

Last year the winner of AHN’s “So You Think You Can Dance” was Hannah Rodriguez (’19) who is a Jaguarette and has been taking dance classes for several years.

“This will be my first year participating in the event,” said Cartwright. “ I am slightly nervous for the event, only because as the director of the show, I want everything to work out perfectly.  However, I am also very grateful and excited to perform in the show, because it provides me the opportunity to share something that I love so much with others.”

“So You Think You Can Dance” continues to grow, as last year’s show had twelve girls who participated. This year there will be twenty-one girls competing, and there will also be a special performance by the Jaguarettes. The winner of the competition will win $100.
