New assistant principal Mr. Mullarkey feels right at home

Between the new administration and the seemingly hundreds of new freshman, Academy girls are starting to see a lot of new faces around campus. Among the new faces is Mr. Jack Mullarkey, Academy’s new assistant principal. After seventeen years of teaching English at St. Petersburg Catholic, Mr. Mullarkey came to AHN because of Academy’s reputation.

“Academy is known around the Tampa area for being a great school,” says Mr. Mullarkey, “It’s got a great reputation.”

This great reputation is just one of the many reasons Mr. Mullarkey made the move to AHN. Along with his great respect for Academy’s new principal, Mrs. Camille Jowanna, Mr. Mullarkey was attracted to Academy because of its outstanding Catholic education. Through receiving his Master of Education at Notre Dame, Mr. Mullarkey was involved with Alliance for Catholic Education, a program that “prepares its teachers in an innovative Master of Education program at Notre Dame. ACE teachers represent a broad variety of undergraduate disciplines, with a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences.”

Mr. Mullarkey plans to use his experiences in achieving his long-term goals of meeting the needs of modern AHN students. He understands that the needs of students have changed over the years, and while upholding traditions are important, excellent schools or organizations are always looking for ways to continuously improve. One of those ways is by keeping pace with technology that parents and students expect to see.

Although Academy’s stellar reputation and his experiences with ACE led Mr. Mullarkey to AHN,  he is no stranger to the Tampa Bay area.  Having lived here since his was six months old, he graduated from St. Patrick’s Elementary School in Largo and from Clearwater Central Catholic High School.   After attending Marquette University in Wisconsin, he returned to the Tampa Bay area to teach at St. Petersburg Catholic.

Mr. Mullarkey certainly feels at home at Academy as well. When asked a fun thing he would like Academy girls to know about him, Mr. Mullarkey responded, “I really like crazy campfire songs… like at Orientation.”

While Orientation made both Mr. Mullarkey and the rest of the school feel right at home at AHN, he also wants to make sure all Academy girls feel welcome in his office and feel free to talk to him about any problems, questions, or comments.
